it is customary at festivals to wear your clothes with pride

โ€‹

show off your true colours

and embody the spirit of the place

โ€‹

adorn yourself in the finest garments

step out from within your shoes

and journey through the soul of another

โ€‹

a sign of unity and free spiritedness

โ€‹

 colour

colours are a great way to put an outfit together

stick to a colour theme

either one colour of two or three

and pick items within that

layer different textures, tones and shapes

create intriguing silhouettes

collaborate with pals and feel united

 sourcing clothing

โ€‹

the best, cheapest and most sustainable way to find festival clothing

is to just look in your own wardrobe

i'm sure you have tonnes of funky item you can put together

why spend money on expensive unsustainable clothing

that you'll probably only wear once

reshuffle your garments and pair them new items

โ€‹

admittedly i'm quite and outrageous person

so do have an array of wavy garms to hand

if you are more tame

them look to borrowing things off of your more extravagant mates

silver

โ€‹

i recently went to lost village festival

where me and my bestie only wore items we already owned

my silver unitard and her silver playsuit

were pre owned and pre loved

as you can see us wearing it previously

at her alien themed birthday party in 2017

โ€‹

i got this unitard back in 2016

secondhand off depop, originally from tirade 13

and have worn it on many occasion

โ€‹

pairing it with disco ball earrings

and lots of silver glitter

to sparkle like a star

red

โ€‹

when going for a red theme

i chose to tone it down by using a lot of black

black shoes, black belt, black under garments

โ€‹

if you're not comfortable with going too all out

then why not chose one colourful item

to be the focal point

and pair with a plain colour

like white or black

โ€‹

i didn't own anymore red

and didn't want to buy anything i would only wear once

so chose to use what i had

which was black a staple of most wardrobes

blue

โ€‹

my favourite colour

โ€‹

quite a chunk of my wardrobe is blue

so it's pretty easy for me to make a multitude of outfits

โ€‹

i like to add purple, silver or black into the mix

some chunky earrings and lots of glitter

โ€‹

this blue bodysuit and shorts

are prize treasures of mine

and have been worn on a multitude of occasions

dressed up or down

for either a festival or night out

โ€‹

d.i.y.

โ€‹

why not have a go at making something yourself

find some scrap materials and sew them together

let your imagination run wild

the best part is that no one will be in the same thing

โ€‹

find a quirky idea and bring it to life

if you can't sew watch a youtube video or ask your gran

take inspo from previous festivals, movies or nature

โ€‹

it doesn't have to be a whole outfit

why not make a funky hat

or a staff to wave above in the crowd

allowing your friends to find you easily

the elements

โ€‹

one of my favourite dress up ideas

either by yourself, in a pair or as a group

is the elements

a great way to get creative

and make some killer outfits

โ€‹

find scrap material in your cupboard

or use natural objets like leaves or branches

โ€‹

i did this at Farr festival with three other ladies

โ€‹

i was wind and wore a white crochet dress

which i attached lots of tassels too

that waved about in the wind and i moved

unfortunately i don't have a picture of us all together

but heres two separate ones with our mate joe

a staff

โ€‹

iv'e seen some great staffs in my time

โ€‹

clear umbrellas turnt into jellyfish with flashing lights

giant spoons being waved frantically

twisted sticks with tassels

โ€‹

there is a whole world of opportunity

to make the whackiest staff possible

grab random materials

and see what happens

โ€‹

its a perfect symbol for friends to find you

when wading through a crowd

 sourcing clothing

โ€‹

secondhand

โ€‹

if the above don't work for you

or you just love shopping

then why not shop secondhand

visit charity shops or vintage stores

browse eBay or look on depop

pretty much all my clothes are secondhand

and i absolutely love that

not only am i not supporting an unsustainable industry

or lining the pockets of corporate businesses

who cut corners and endanger lives

but i'm also getting my pieces for a reduced rate

keeping them from landfill

and best of all no one has the same

i have created my own unique style

and not just followed that seasons trends

these pieces will last my lifetime

and i shall treasure them deeply

unitards

โ€‹

one of my favourite festival get ups are unitards

so easy and simple to throw on

great for all the mischief you shall get up to

accessorise with some funky earrings

and your good to go

โ€‹

my rainbow unitard is one of my prized possessions

purchased off depop for £20 back in 2016

it has been with me to many outrageous events

and has been worn by lots

โ€‹

it's great to share outfits with mates

(as seen on Chloe)

to reduce the urge to have to buy a new outfit

and share the love

jackets

โ€‹

my favourite vintage finds are jackets

i have a pretty sweet collection of them

lots of different styles and patterns

they are the best accessory to any outfit

and can really put a look together

all my jackets are secondhand

great finds from a huge variety of charity shops

all over the globe

โ€‹

ethical brands

โ€‹

if you are going to buy new

then choose to spend your money wisely

find quirky sustainable brands

and support independent businesses

creating a better world

Lucy & yak

โ€‹

my favourite clothing brand is Lucy & yak

the dungaree brand

they also do funky trouser

and stripped tees

all made from organic cotton, recycled materials

even a few hemp and linen items

on top of that

they have a great ethos

with all items handmade in india

by workers paid fair wages

and in a safe, clean and solar powered factory

they help support independent artist

do creative photoshoots

and are super nice

what more could you want

shop elleclipse

โ€‹

a shameless plug

however if you don't know

i actually have my own shop

where i source secondhand pre loved clothing

that i embroider on

โ€‹

reworking it to be something fabulous

creating unique pieces of clothing

that stand out from a crowd

and carry a hard hitting message to

โ€‹

independent brands

โ€‹

i'm all for supporting fellow creatives

so if you know someone creating the funkiest clothing

but maybe not in the most sustainable way

then why not see if you can source it secondhand

off Depop or eBay

if not be conscious with your purchase

and don't over buy

choose your item(s) wisely

get something you know you'll get a lot of wear out of

something that will last a while

and can be re-worn for different occasions

shop easy tiger

โ€‹

i have been following this designer for years now

and when she started her own collection

it was what dreams were made of

unfortunately each piece is made from plastic sequins

in Thailand, then shipped and posted in plastic

i own three items from this designer

both i found secondhand on depop

my first purchase in 2017

was a greeny blue shimmy cabaret bodysuit

which i love deeply and get a lot of wear out of it

โ€‹

the second item is a pair of rainbow short

which i also got of depop in 2017

โ€‹

my final item a rainbow hat

which i again got from depop in 2018

shop fluffy

โ€‹

i own two shop fluffy item

a rainbow crochet mini dress

i brought secondhand off of depop in 2018

and a patchwork rainbow top i got on depop in 2019

both items are made from cotton

in Bali and designed by lulu

i have worn each item on multiple occasions

they are good quality and well designed pieces

i can see getting a lot of use in the future

can you spot the Chloe rocking a piece out in the sea

for brighton pride

 festi bestie

you gotta love a power couple

wether that be you best friend or a partner in crime

two peeps in a killer couples fit looks sick

i've done this a few times with my besti

and it brings me so much joy

running around like a couple of badasses

making all the trouble you can

Screen Shot 2019-08-27 at 16.44.57.png

 group goals

coming as a group

why not match your outfits

i love seeing huge groups of people wearing similar fits

causing all the chaos

tearing up the dance floor

crowds of men dressed as women

whole movies brought to life

flocks of people in unison

once you're done with your clothing

โ€‹

resell or donate

โ€‹

if after festival season you decide you don't want something anymore

don't just chuck it away

try to re sell it on Depop or eBay

get a bit of dosh back

and keep the items lifecycle rolling

reducing waste

and brightening up someones day

as they've received an item they love for a reduced rate

โ€‹

if not then donate it

to a friend or charity shop

some even pick the items up from your house
